Instructor directions are listed below:

  1. Explain to students that they will use the engineering design process to create a robotic hat, like they did for their robotic creations.
  2. Review the Thinkabit Lab engineering design process: 1) Define a Problem, 2) Brainstorm, 3) Design, 4) Build, 5) Test, 6) Iterate and 7) Share. Alternatively, students can follow an engineering design process that is commonly used at your site.
  3. Define the Problem: Ask students to think of a problem that could be solved with a robotic hat.  Alternatively, you could ask students to think of a theme for their hat if you want to keep it really fun.
  4. Brainstorm: Allow students time to brainstorm ideas as a team and encourage each team to land on a theme before moving to the design. Encourage students to think beyond smart watches into other possible wearables:
  • Hats
  • Shoes
  • Shirts/Jackets
  • Pants
  • Jewelry
